Where To Find Antiques?

Many people do not grasp exactly how antiques originate, and you should endeavor not to be this kind of antique buyer. Many collectors and dealers alike waste time searching places where they think these items exist in large quantities. A good understanding of the antique process eludes far too many dealers and collectors.

If you want to find fresh-to-the-market antiques and collectibles, you need to go where they are in great abundance, and where they come from! Naturally, they do not start at auctions or flea markets, or even at antique shows. This is something that will remain true for 99 percent of any and all antiques that you will ever run across.

Also, these people who own antiques are, by and large, members of the older population. Speaking in general terms, young people do not own them as much as older people do. The reason for this is simply because many older people are from a generation that saved everything and frequently have kept it all. Keeping the toys that they had in the 1950s or the toaster that never worked might have started as a sentimental act, which is how the antiques originated.

Since you are now one of the people who do understand where antiques come from, it begs a big question. That question being: knowing that antiques form in people’s homes - especially older people’s homes - where are you gong to spend your prime time? I wasted many valuable years in trying to grasp the following principles.

1. Anyone who wants to buy more fresh antiques will need to put themselves in a position where they see a large number of them on a recurrent basis. 2. To see more, you must look at more household accumulations on a consistent basis. 3. Undoubtedly, you will need to step up your efforts to get into more older people’s homes, where the antiques are.

If you want to get a leg up over the competition, there is no better way than to use these simple concepts. Most of the antique dealers or collectors that I know get their antiques through one of five not very useful methods. You’ll likely see your competition looking through their local estate or garage sales, auctions, “pickers”, flea markets, and stores such as Goodwill.

Knowing and understand the above principles will help you to focus on where you will find the most antiques. If you want to be incredibly successful, you have to go where the antiques originate. Stay the course and focus on the concepts you learned above, and you will find yourself going very far in your search!
